Do you need a relaxing break or a little bit of slack? Steer straight for the coffee machine of course! Yet nothing really predestined the coffee cherries, whose stimulating properties were discovered by fluke by an Ethiopian shepherd. Today, it is the second most consumed beverage globally, such an incredible success…
Originally, coffee was a food and not a beverage. The first tribes of East Africa mixed the coffee cherries with animal fat to form balls of energy (just call them ‘primitive power bars’). Coffee also grew in the Arabian Peninsula and it was there that one has made a hot drink for the first time, around the year 1000 AD. There are countless legends on the discovery of the stimulating properties of coffee berries. The most famous is the story of a young shepherd named Khaldi, intrigued by the behavior of his goats who ate the tree’s fruit. He shared his story with a neighbour and it was this neighbour which suggested he make a drink with it.
Coffee has experienced a modest beginning in history before becoming the indispensable partner of your tiredness and foodstuff with undeniable economic power!
